phase,\u00a0ideally,\u00a0we would have already worked on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uruit.com\/blog\/the-product-strategy-that-works-for-you\/\">product strategy<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a going\u00a0to solve and\u00a0to look like.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0the\u00a0team will likely start developing the MPP at this point, the reality is that the design cycle does not end. Should\u00a0we\u00a0start with an MVP or MMP?\u00a0We\u00a0must determine the right starting point for product development, and before\u00a0we\u00a0can do\u00a0that\u00a0we\u00a0must first understand what\u00a0each of those terms means.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">MVP<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An MVP is a minimum viable product.\u00a0Think about it as the\u00a0product\u00a0that can be\u00a0developed\u00a0with the least amount of effort \u2013 and in the shortest amount of time. It\u2019s not a finalized\u00a0product but rather a\u00a0baseline that can be iteratively tested and validated.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The goal here is to\u00a0learn about how\u00a0the\u00a0product will work by testing assumptions and different variables.\u00a0However,\u00a0we\u00a0don\u2019t want to invest too much time and resources\u00a0in case it ends up not working!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For example,\u00a0the\u00a0MVP might be software that addresses the central use case for\u00a0the\u00a0product. It can validate assumptions\u00a0we\u2019ve made about how\u00a0we\u00a0will serve\u00a0the\u00a0users and meet their needs. Alternatively, an MVP can\u00a0be a landing page used to validate customer interest and price points.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">MMP<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The MMP is\u00a0the\u00a0minimum marketable product. Unlike\u00a0the\u00a0MVP that is geared towards\u00a0validating\u00a0assumptions and user interest, the MMP is the next step in developing\u00a0the\u00a0product. It can also be called the minimum marketable feature.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This refers to a core set of features that meet\u00a0the\u00a0users\u2019\u00a0immediate needs.\u00a0It includes the most important functionality for the product to succeed but also delivers valuable insights back to\u00a0the\u00a0organization.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In other words,\u00a0we\u00a0can use the MMP\u00a0as the first version of\u00a0the\u00a0product that is released to the market.\u00a0We\u2019ve already got an idea of who our target market is and what pain points\u00a0we\u00a0will be addressing, so this will\u00a0serve as a foundation for future functionality and feature enhancements.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Which is Right\u00a0for Your Product?<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Choosing to start with an MVP or MMP will depend on where\u00a0we\u00a0are in the process.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If\u00a0we\u00a0have an idea\u00a0about how to fill a need in\u00a0the\u00a0market but still need additional testing to determine where to start, then\u00a0we will\u00a0consider developing an MVP. This route is also ideal if\u00a0you\u00a0do not have substantial funding and want to build a stronger business plan.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On the other hand, if\u00a0we\u00a0are changing service design models or product content, an MMP may be more beneficial.\u00a0Here\u00a0we\u00a0already have a product\u00a0idea\u00a0that\u00a0works but\u00a0want\u00a0to reduce time-to-market and get direct feedback from real users.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An MMP can often accomplish both goals, so this tends to be the preferred route for digital product development.
